David Natali, Winemaker

Winemaker David Natali brings extensive wine knowledge and industry experience to Robert Biale Vineyards. He has worked his way up in the cellar and has gained invaluable experience with every position.

A New York native, David graduated from Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service and developed a passion for winemaking after bottling at a friend’s small winery. Intrigued by the convergence of art and science behind winemaking, David pursued a position as a cellar hand at Clos Pegase Winery in Calistoga, CA. During his seven-year tenure, he managed their day-to-day winemaking operations and performed essential lab and cellar duties under the guidance of their winemaker. He eventually left his position to continue his education in Europe.

David studied at the prestigious University of Montpellier in France, where he received his master’s degree in Viticulture and Enology. After two and a half years of living and studying abroad in Montpellier, France, and Udine, Italy, David returned to California. He became the Assistant Winemaker for La Rochelle Winery in Kenwood, CA, producing small-lot, single-vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

In 2018, David returned to Napa Valley as the Assistant Winemaker at Robert Biale Vineyards. He managed the cellar and lab’s daily operations to implement new winemaking techniques under the guidance of Winemaker Tres Goetting. In 2022, David was promoted to head Winemaker, and he continues to look forward to crafting wines from Napa and Sonoma Valleys’ most unique and historic vineyards.

David resides in Napa with his wife and two young children. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking and working in their garden.
