2019 Black Chicken Zinfandel: Sourced from the original family vineyard that Aldo, Nonna, Bob, and the Biale family have farmed since the 1930s, with additional grapes from our Oak Knoll District Vineyard, Black Chicken represents the ultimate expression of Napa Valley Zinfandel from this cool, southern region.
Winemaker’s Tasting Notes: This wine is round and plush with a gentle grip of perfectly ripe tannins. It showcases bright aromas with a fine-grained texture exhibiting notes of red and dark fruit – raspberries, cherries, blackberries – star anise, black and white pepper, cocoa, and subtle, nuanced oak. Ageworthy, compelling, and decadent, this beautifully proportioned Zinfandel is ready to enjoy now and will continue to age gracefully over the next 3 to 5 years.
2019 Stagecoach Vineyard® Zinfandel: We are proud of our project at Stagecoach Vineyards®. This vineyard location is unlike any other – in a way, it’s a district of its own. Situated in and around Atlas Peak, Pritchard Hill, and Oakville, this location encompasses hundreds of acres of prime mountain vineyards that supply winemakers with prized grapes to create award-winning wines. However, unlike many producers growing grapes in this region, Biale stands out from the rest. We are the only winery bold and dedicated enough to produce a Zinfandel from this region, and after 17 years of crafting this wine, it’s definitely worth the expense, trouble, and long treks beyond Atlas Peak, especially when you see the breathtaking view from up there.
Winemaker’s Tasting Notes: This bold red wine is complex and sophisticated with striking ripe aromatics. When poured into a glass, it explodes with notes of wild blackberries, jasmine, sage, wild iris, and mixed berry compote. Firm and succulent on the mid-palate, the tannin of this wine makes for a long and juicy finish.
2018 The Southern Trail Zinfandel: The historic Silverado trail runs north and south on the eastern edge of Napa. The southern section – containing AVAs Oak Knoll District, Carneros, and Coombsville – lies closer to the San Pablo Bay, where the climate is cool, breezy and makes for a longer growing season. This broad-growing region is also gaining quick recognition for producing many elegant, polished, and finely balanced red and white wines that represent the region’s cool and breezy climate. Zinfandel grows particularly well in this area producing wines that are lush with dark fruit characteristics.
Winemaker’s Tasting Notes: This wine exhibits inviting aromas of dark plum, cocoa, nougat, blueberry, and blackberry. It is finely balanced with deep mid-palate fruit, fresh acidity, dusty tannins, and toasted oak. This wine is age-worthy and will continue to improve for the next 5 to 7 years.
2019 Royal Punishers Petite Sirah: Petite Sirah was the most commonly planted grape in Napa Valley for nearly a century. It was a favorite grape among winemakers looking to amplify underpowered wines in need of deep fruit, color, and structure. Its natural versatility made it a great counterpart to all red varieties, including Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Today, we are witnessing a resurgence and deep appreciation for this historic variety. Known for its dark color, firm structure, and deep black and blue fruit flavors, it’s perfectly suited to Napa’s moderate and arid growing season.
Winemaker’s Tasting Notes: This wine has a deep, blackish blue hue with aromas of fresh currants, red plum, quince, violets, figs, molasses, and blackberry. Medium-bodied with a broad mid-palate structure, this wine exhibits complex layers of texture and flavors. The oak profile integrates fruit and tannins that are wide-grained and lead to a long, lingering finish.
